University Hospital Wales restaurant refreshed with Expona Flow

Polyflor‘s Expone Flor PUR collection was used recently on a new restaurant area at University Hospital Wales in Cardiff, creating a vibrant new space.

The canteen at the hospital has been transformed, now called Y Gegin, meaning “The Kitchen” in Welsh. Throughout the restaurant, Swansea based contractors Artisan Flooring installed approximately 600m2 of Polyflor flooring.

Throughout the server stations, cashier desks, dining areas and around vending machines, the grey-toned Silver Oak wood effect designs from Polyflor’s Expona Flow flooring collection were installed. 

The flooring is ideal for heavy commercial environments with 50 wood, stone and abstract designs in a 2 metre wide sheet format with a 2mm gauge and o.7mm wear layer are featured in the Expona Flow PUR collection of heterogeneous vinyl flooring. 

The flooring has had fantastic feedback from customers and performs well, according to Jonathan Aver front he hospital’s Capital Planning and Estate Management department.

Polysafe Arena PUR safety flooring was installed behind the server stations, where spillages may occur, providing sustainable wet slip resistance in the textile effete Chambray design.

Clear aluminium oxide safety particles are incorporated through the performance layer of the vinyl which are virtually invisible to the naked eye, ensuring an attractive yet safe floor finish for the safety flooring range.

Stringent slip resistance requirements are met by Arena, achieving 36+ on the Pendulum Wet Test with full conformance to HSE Guidelines and EN 13845.

Optimum appearance levels and reduced life cycle maintenance cost savings are provided with polyurethane reinforcements enhancing both the Expona Flow and Polysafe Arena ranges, cross linked and UV cured. Therefore, the floor coverings can be easily maintained with a simple cleaning regime.

The Expona Flow and Polysafe Arena ranges achieve an individually certified BRE Global A+ rating (ENP 415) for major use areas in the healthcare sector as well as being certified to Indoor Air Comfort Gold, assuring that VOC emissions are below any globally determined levels.

In addition, both products have been awarded the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing Standard. These products are also recycled material and are 100% recyclable via the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme.
