Underfloor heating ideal when it comes to renewable energy and sustainability

  • 20 Mar 2017

Mixing and matching various systems and achieving the most appropriate solution is important when it comes to heating. The building regulations require this as they aim to reduce energy use and CO2 emissions in a building, aiming for sustainability.

As a result, suppliers that provide total designed solutions, rather than individual products are more popular.

Underfloor heating, wet or electric, is regarded as economical, ultra-efficient and comfortable, scoring high in terms of environmental performance. Simple to install and control, underfloor heating wastes no heat at ceiling level and frees up valuable wall space and provides complete design freedom.

Continuous pipe loops are laid within a screed, or between timber joists, beneath the floor surface and water circulates through at low temperatures. Electric systems on the other hand, involve either cables laid within the screed or cable mats laid on top of existing subfloors.

Underfloor heating is ideal when it comes to working with renewable energy and sustainable solutions. However, it must be considered in terms of other components that make up the floor such as insulation, screed and floor coverings as well as in relation to the energy source, the overall specification of the building and level of sustainability being sought.

Companies are aiming to help clients to achieve true value, by delivering a one-stop-shop, solution-driven service that ‘bolts’ together multiple products. Value is added to the product with one point of contact, bespoke design, shortening of the build programme, ease of installation, compliance with regulations and end-user appeal, plus warranty based on the knowledge that the company is well established and is likely to still exist int en years time.

In addition, underfloor heating virtually disappears within the schedule as it is wrapped within the flooring package and installed at the same time.

Underfloor heating is being used more and more in houses and seen as a selling point.

Gaia provides total solutions for any sized project and its long established solution approach is one that includes design and installation of wet and electric underfloor heating, along with comprehensive specification advice.
