Far from being a room where we merely sleep in, the modern bedroom demands that it incorporates the latest interior trends to provide a stylish and comfortable place to relax, no matter what time of the day it is!
Whether we’re seeking to make our bedroom the perfect romantic hideaway, or are looking to make it a modern multifunctional space, there are plenty of interesting new trends to incorporate into our bedrooms in 2017.
The hygge trend was everywhere in 2016, and it looks like its contrasting themes of Scandinavian sleekness and natural cosiness will continue to be a massive hit throughout the year.
What’s interesting about the hygge trend is the way that it maintains a simplicity through ample use of natural light and traditional materials like wood, but adds plenty of modern fabric designs like geometric printed patterns to add a touch of modernity to this universally appealing look.
Whilst Scandinavian trends take a less-is-more approach, there’s no danger of this in the retro Victorian trend that’s been a big hit ever since Downton Abbey came to our TV screens.
So whether it’s installing plenty of retro ornaments like vintage photo frames and candelabras, or even updating your bed with an ornate but cheap headboard from a company like Bedstar, it’s a look that’s fun to implement and endlessly stylish.
But one trend that’s really hit all of our homes and businesses over the past year is brutalism that takes in everything from reclaimed wood to exposed brickwork and filament light bulbs.
Whilst such an extreme look might be the opposite of what we’d expect from the cosy bedroom, this elegant brutalist loft shows how this style can be used to achieve some surprisingly chic results.
But regardless of whether you are looking to give the toned down neutrals of the hygge trend a burst of colour, or are seeking to give your cheap headboard a new look, it seems that 2017 is going to be all about rich and unusual colours.
From vibrant blues like teal and aquamarine, to shocking shades of pink and green, we’re going to be using colour in far more daring ways in our bedrooms.
And with mustard yellow being a great year-round way to brighten up even the dullest of British days, it seems that 2017 is going to be a seriously colourful year!
