Express Asphalt access platforms allow for safe sheeting

  • 31 May 2017

Aggregate Industries’ Express Asphalt division has launched a new solution for customers to access the back of their tipper vehicles, in order to negate the risks associated with applying sheeting.

Under current legislation, companies operating tipper vehicles that carry asphalt must ensure they are adequately sheeted, to alleviate the risk of loss of load.

The practice of sheeting and un-sheeting has however presented a different safety concern for drivers; as many drivers sheet their loads by standing at height at the side of the truck or, even worse, climbing on top of the truck to pull the sheet over.

Express Asphalt has thereby developed a solution in the form of its specialist access platform, to make the process faster and safer than before.

Available nationwide, the new loading facility means that once customers have collected their loads from an Express Asphalt plant, they can drive over to the access platform, comprising a safeguarded stairway leading to a platform, in order to sheet safely.

Duncan Reaney, General Manager of Express Asphalt, said: “Inherently, the sheeting process has always been a cumbersome one for lorry drivers – with many putting themselves at risk by trying to sheet at height on top or at the side of their vehicle. With many trying to do this as quickly as possible, being under pressure to meet tight deadlines, the result is a real health and safety hazard.

As such, we have purposely developed our new loading facility in order to make the process much safer and easier – meaning one less thing to worry about. This follows in our continued commitment to providing the best possible service to our valued customers.”
