Glazing Vision’s Flushglaze rooflights were recently installed on a 3-storey private residence in London.
The rooflights provide the essential amount of daylight required both to illuminate as well as to heat this eco-friendly home.
Architect, Richard Dudzicki, a PassivHaus specialist, designed the house after a three year battle to gain planning permission on the brownfield site.
The focal point of the house is a central concrete staircase, and all floors are suspended from this core. The sculptural effect on the internal walls of this staircase, left when the wooden shuttering was removed from the concrete, complements the timber flooring and the recessed lighting on the treads.
The open-plan living area looks out onto a sunken courtyard garden at the back of the house, whilst the two bedrooms in the basement open into private courtyards.
Glazing Vision’s Flushglaze rooflights met one major priority for the project – to maximise light. All three rooflights were precision engineered at Glazing Vision’s Norfolk factory to the exact dimensions specified by the architect.
The largest rooflight is 4m in length and is installed above the entrance and floods the hallway and adjoining living area with daylight. Its minimal internal framework adds to the sense of loft and airiness whilst complementing the modern glass balustrade of the staircase.
Two additional Glazing Vision Flushglaze rooflights are on the top floor – above the central stairwell and above the third bedroom.
The flushglaze rooflights pointed directly at the light source and provided access to solar heat gains whilst the triple glazed panes provided enhanced thermal performance.
The Eco-Lodge was the winner of the Gold Award at the 2015 London Design Awards and a finalist in the urban category of the 2016 PassivHaus Awards.
