Polyflor has recently published its 12th annual Sustainability Report, outlining the manufacturer’s environmental performance over the past year.
The report provides a detailed account of Polyflor’s sustainability throughout 2016, covers the company’s green credentials and explains how Polyflor is fully committed to producing environmentally preferable flooring, ensuring sustainability at every step of a product’s life cycle.
2016 saw the HGVs within the fleet replaced with modern Euro VI engines resulting in much lower emissions and an increase in backhaul operations, removing in excess of 465 HGV journeys from the road network.
In addition, resource management was improved with initiatives such as more daylight ports being installed to maximise natural lighting and existing lighting being replaced with sensor operated LED lights, helping reduce our carbon footprint. Furthermore, water usage fell by 1.4% and total waste tonnage fell by 8%.
As a co-founding and funding member of the Recofloor vinyl take-back scheme, Polyflor reports a record 508 tonnes of post-consumer waste vinyl flooring being collected in the past year, with 69 new collectors recruited.
Polyflor is the first flooring manufacturer to obtain the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing standard with a Very Good rating. Polyflor’s products also contain up to 85% sustainable material and up to 40% recycled material.
Polyflor’s Manufacturing Director Steve Mulholland commented, “With hard work and commitment, we will continue to make improvements to our manufacturing plants, processes and logistics wherever possible to continuously strengthen our sustainability performance.”
