The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers’ (GAI) introductory seminar, which covers the specification of door hardware, has achieved RIBA approval.
Architectural ironmongers fulfil an important role in the supply chain, working with architects, contractors and interior designers to specify hardware for a building’s doors and windows. They are responsible for producing a full fixing schedule of hardware items.
Based on its publication, ‘Specification of Door Hardware – an Architect’s Guide’, GAI’s introductory ironmongery specification seminar has been designed for architects and architectural technicians who are new to ironmongery specification.
The seminar has been assessed and approved by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), offering double learning points for architects and other construction professionals.
Delivered by GAI members across the UK, the CPD module explains what architectural ironmongery is, and advises a list of primary considerations when specifying door hardware.
It also explains how a hardware specification is put together, outlines the risks and how to avoid them, and offers tips on choosing an architectural ironmonger to work with.
