VELUX encourages healthier homes with more daylight

  • 3 Jul 2017

VELUX is hoping to inspire architects to consider daylight as a principle source for the health and wellbeing of UK homeowners at a major building conference in Edinburgh today (3rd July).

The company will share its latest research that confirms daylight and ventilation are key to reducing the risk of respiratory health conditions caused by dampness and rot at the Passive Low Energy Architecture 2017 conference.

VELUX experts will present its 2017 Healthy Homes Barometer, among ten other research papers, demonstrating a clear correlation between poor housing stock and ill-health in all countries across Europe.

VELUX will also facilitate a workshop under the theme ‘How to renovate residential buildings efficiently and affordably?’

Grant Sneddon, Product Manager at VELUX-GBI said: “We’re committed to finding new ways of planning buildings and cities, where both people and the environment are placed at centre stage.

“We believe affordability will be a key driver in increasing the share of energy-efficient and healthy renovated buildings. High cost is commonly a main barrier when owners decide whether to renovate or not, and reducing the cost of renovation is therefore a paramount factor in adding more volume to energy-efficient and low carbon emitting buildings.”

PLEA is a global network that has led a worldwide discourse on sustainable architecture and urban design through its conferences since 1982.
