Durapipe invests in investigation on plastic pipework materials

Durapipe UK is investing over £50,000 in new chemical analysis technology to continue investigating plastic pipework materials.

Most of Durapipe’s investment is in a new Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy machine for the manufacturer’s in-house laboratory, enabling the company to continue investigating chemical attacks on pipework with a fast turnaround of results.

The technology detects chemicals present on any pipe sample and detects chemicals that are incompatible with the pipe material. The new machine allows the Durapipe chemist to more accurately test the impact of any given chemical on various pipework materials. Therefore, the company chemist can provide reliable advice on the sustainability of different pipework systems.

Additionally, Durapipe has invested in a new fume cupboard for the laboratory to allow the company chemist to safely handle any chemical substances.

Durapipe’s Company Chemist, Anil Kumar comments: “The latest investment in technology means we can now identify causes of chemical attack more quickly, with more detailed analysis allowing us to not only more accurately pinpoint causes of failure, but also advise on the most appropriate system for different chemical applications.”
