Improved pipework systems prove saviour for art gallery

  • 29 Aug 2017

Dual contained pipework from Durapipe UK has played a pivotal role in the major £30 million redevelopment of Aberdeen Art Gallery.

With the existing 11 gallery spaces being extended to 21, a new rainwater drainage system was required for the building.

The gallery was concerned about any potential leaks from the drainage system damaging the artwork, so purpose-designed, dual contained pipework Durapipe Guardian was chosen for the job.

Commenting on the project, Craig Preston, mechanical contracts manager at contractors Dowds Group, said: “There were very specific requirements for the pipework on this project as it was crucial that the specified system could protect against potential leaks damaging artwork in the gallery spaces below.

“The Durapipe Guardian system was the most effective solution for achieving this, while also delivering installation benefits.”

The refurbishment of the gallery will also see the fabric of the buildings upgraded, improved facilities for visitors and the creation of both a new 500 square metre space to showcase international-quality exhibitions and a community gallery in a new wing at the rear of the building.
