AkzoNobel leading the way in sustainability

  • 9 Nov 2017

AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK has been awarded the Best in Combined Reduction for Carbon, Water and Waste for 2017, recognising the best overall performer from all companies that hold the Carbon Trust Triple Standard.

This standard acknowledges its commitment to sustainability, plus any achievements that have been made.

Since 2009, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK has recorded some impressive stats, reducing the carbon footprint of all operations by 37%, water usage by 24% since 2010 and waste output by a substantial 42% since 2011.

The Carbon Trust works together with businesses, governments and the private sector to help gear the move to a sustainable and low carbon economy.

Having been certified to the Carbon Trust Standard since 2009, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK is one of only a few companies to possess the accreditation for this amount of time.

AkzoNobel’s commitment to long-term value and positive social impact has seen them set a goal to become carbon neutral and exclusively use 100% renewable energy across all operations by 2050.

The recent opening of the world’s most advanced and sustainable paint plant in Ashington, Northumberland is a major milestone to achieving this.

Managing Director at The Carbon Trust, Hugh Jones, commented: “We are delighted to recognise AkzoNobel for its excellent performance in reducing carbon emissions, water use and waste. We would like to congratulate everyone at AkzoNobel that has contributed to this success.”

Sustainability Director UK & Ireland at AkzoNobel, Susan Kendall, said: “Being recognised for the second time as best overall performer in the Carbon Trust Triple Standard is a source of great pride for us.

“However we will continue to evolve and to find innovative new ways to further reduce our environmental impact.”
