Gilberts well up to complex Charterhouse louvre project

  • 24 Jan 2018

An office block in Charterhouse Square, London, has been fitted with variations of Gilberts Blackpool‘s WG75 louvre system as part of a refurbishment project.

The project, designed by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, which saw the existing building upgraded and remodelled, to increase floor area by 9,500 square feet to 43,500 sq ft.

Gilberts’ John Hangar spoke about the project being complex, due to the ‘scale and size’ of the louvres that were needed for the façade and plant screening, as well as the visual considerations to address as well.

The louvres also had to behave like the adjacent windows, with all components having to reflect the Grade A quality of the building.

On top of this, the solution needed to be sympathetic to the historical surroundings, whilst complying with a relatively tight budget.

Gilberts worked alongside the design team to develop a series of solutions for each area of the building.

For the façade, WG75 aluminium standard louvres with a PPC black finish were used, with Gilberts’ unique in-house design and fabrication facility allowing them to develop a solution,.

This saw a bespoke box section fabricated to reflect the aesthetics, whilst offering a secure fixing and weathering detail.

Nick Jones, project architect at Buckley Gray Yeoman, commented: “Gilberts was put forward as a solution to meet budgetary constraints. We’re very pleased with the end result, which balanced our core design objectives with the physical requirements and commercial limitations.”

Gilberts’ WG75series is at the cornerstone of the company’s range of louvres, a beacon of strength and rigidity in a discreet profile that still delivers 50% free ventilation area and high weather ingress resistance.
