An small two-bed residence in London features DuPont Tyvek® membranes to help guarantee supreme wind, water and UV resistance.
Used alongside tapes and sealants in application to the building envelope, these innovative membranes offer superior vapour diffusion, whilst lowering fire risk, enhancing airtightness and thermal stability.
Helping contribute to the performance of the design is Tyvek® UV Façade, a specialised, all black breather membrane with excellent longevity.
Also used is the Tyvek® FireCurb® Housewrap, an ingenuitive fire-retardant breather membrane which has been added to protect the timber frame structure and the foam-filled SIPS – a vital specification due to the proximity of neighbouring buildings.
The presence of sealant tape Tyvek® FlexWrap NF gives a strong seal for awkward joints and penetrations, with the optimal system completed by Tyvek® Supro, a highly valued underlay with renowned durability.
Building creator Joe Stuart spoke about needing the best products on offer, with reliability and quality a necessity.
He hailed the great guidance provided by the DuPont regional manager and the experts from the Tyvek® Building Knowledge Centre, who allayed concerns and made the project a far more simpler process.
He also said despite it being one of the smallest two-bed houses in London, he will forever regard it as one of his most important projects, in the knowledge he made the ‘right choice’ in using Tyvek, having complete confidence in the longevity of the performance and energy efficiency of the building envelope.
Taking two years to finish, at £250,000, it means Joe, 28, and his partner Lina can escape the ‘rent trap’ that can cripple young people in the capital, whilst taking pride in a home with heart, soul and pure grit.
