Western Red channel cladding gives 1970s bungalow a contemporary feel

  • 7 Feb 2018

When a 1970s three bedroom bungalow was transformed recently, Western Red Cedar was chosen to make timber a prominent feature of this contemporary make-over.

Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 12.53.12Matt from Clough Construction recently bought the bungalow with the aim of transforming it into a modern four bedroom house with different roofing levels and features.

At 40% render and 60% cladding, Matt chose Western Red Cedar to for a warm and inviting appeal and the natural colour variations provided an extra feature in the new design.

The channel cladding uses a mixture of board widths, creating a bold shadow line that showcases the face of each board. The cladding was also used internally for the ceiling of the covered patio.

The cladding was sanded and coated by Silva Timber in factory conditions, rather than on site, to save time and ensure that the cladding received the best protection before being exposed to the elements. Matt then chose to have the cladding finished in Sansin SDF Harvest Gold tone to keep the timber as close to the natural colour as possible.
