Nurturing talent during Apprenticeship Week with Aggregate

  • 13 Mar 2018

As part of last week’s National Apprenticeship Week, Aggregate Industries hosted an event at its Leicestershire HQ, geared towards the next generation of talent.

During the event, a group of students from local school Rawlins Academy, met current apprentices at Aggregate Industries, who spoke about the range of careers the construction sector has to offer.

There were networking opportunities galore  between students and members of the Aggregate Industries’ Future Talent Programmes, allowing students to gain an insight into the construction industry, as well as Aggregate and placements that are available.

Emma Morris, Learning and Development Advisor at Aggregate Industries, talked about the students being given a questionnaire, which showed all were keen to look into apprenticeships.

“As an industry, we need to ensure that we nurture and inspire students to follow a career in the sector, as it can offer a wide range of exciting opportunities,” she said.

She also accepted that there is still a large job that needed to be done by the industry to raise awareness of the rewards of working in construction, whilst eradicating misconceptions that jobs are mainly for men, low-paid and low skilled.
