A variety of Polyflor‘s Polysafe safety flooring products have helped create a new learning environment for health and social care students at the University of Derby’s Chesterfield Campus.
Opened in 1911, the Grade II listed St Helena Building’ renovation comprises part of a £6.7m project for the university
Polysafe safety flooring features throughout the campus; fitted by Nottingham-based contractors Diamond Flooring, a clinical skills suite, six bed NHS-standard mock ward and an immersive simulation suite, which mimics a real-life working environment for students, have all had the flooring fitted.
Polysafe Wood fx PUR vinyl safety flooring in Sun Bleached Oak was used with textile-effect Polysafe Arena in Steelwool for communal break areas such as the campus refectory.
Polysafe Wood fx is a robust sheet vinyl flooring, seeing the authentic reproduction of wood meet virtually invisible aggregates to offer traction for underfoot safety, with no compromise on the high clarity appearance of the floor.
Polysafe Verona PUR comes in Dolphin Grey and Café Noir shades, featuring in the mock hospital ward learning areas. The Verona range possesses virtually invisible slip resistant particles and complementary tonal chips, which offer the high clarity look of a smooth vinyl floor with the performance of a safety floor.
Given it offers sustainable slip resistance in commercial kitchens, Polysafe Ultima flooring in Aurora Grey was also fitted in the servery and food preparation areas.
Tim Zijlstra, Resource Centre Manager at the St Helena Campus, talked about their attempts to try and replicate the look of a real-life hospital on campus, in order to give students a taste of their future working environment.
“The choice of flooring helps add to the realism, as well as providing our students and staff with a safe environment to study in,” he said.
