Redland has released a pair of new dry verge products to coincide with the publication of the new British standard, BS 8612.
The standard: dry-fixed ridge, hip and verge systems for slating and tiling – sets out to ensure that dry fixed products are properly designed and installed to be fit to function.
BS 8612 comes after an increasing number of, particularly, dry verge failures; mainly due to installation errors, but also contributed to by product design.
The new standard details tests for dry-fixed products to examine how effectively they resist vertical and horizontal wind uplift loads; ensuring they won’t be blown off in a gale and that their materials have quality in terms of durability and dimensioning.
For dry verges, the standard also introduces a new test to see that water is shed away from walls efficiently and so minimising the risk of wetting of gable ends.
Redland’s new dry verges, the DryVerge and Rapid DryVerge, are designed to not only meet BS 8612, but also to be best in class.
As well as this, the dry verges have been designed to be even quicker and speedier to fix than their predecessors.
The verges feature an effective stop-ended starter unit to make it much harder to get fitting wrong, lowering the risk of corrections and call-backs.
For designers, contractors and merchants seeking to gain understand the requirements of BS 8612 and compliant dry-fixed systems; Redland, inventor of the dry-fix roofing system, has produced a useful guide to the new standard: download it from – www.redland.co.uk/dryverge
