Closomat have been reflecting on the updating of the British Standard for accessibility in the built environment, now extending the usability of the ultimate in accessible toileting.
BS8300:2018 design of an accessible and inclusive built environment has changed the best practice criteria for assisted accessible toilet facilities, commonly known as Changing Places.
The Standard now notes the replacement of a conventional WC within the facility with a wash & dry (automatic shower) toilet can allow for increased independence and dignity for those using.
A wash & dry toilet, such as a Closomat, has the appearance of a conventional WC and can be used in the same way also.
Integrated douching and drying facilities clean the user after toileting, with no need for manual wiping with toilet tissue.
The upgrade means millions who require care support can toilet without reliance on carer(s) to wipe them clean afterwards.
It also means people who may need help in toileting can still do so when away from their home, knowing they are properly clean.
Closomat is the brand leader in wash & dry toilets nationwide; a leading supplier and installer of Changing Places toilets, which Building Regulations and the British Standard stipulate should be provided in any building for which large numbers of the public have access, they already worked with some big name brands.
These include MOTO, Cadbury World, National Exhibition Centre, Gatwick Airport and intu.
Explains Claire Haymes, Closomat away from home specialist: “Over our decade of experience in the provision of Changing Places, we have found increasingly that venues ask, as they are developing their Changing Places, what steps can they take to optimise its usage.
“Many have already fitted a Closomat in place of a conventional WC, reasoning it delivers greater dignity to users and extends the usability of the facility.”
