Monument Underground Station upgrade by GEC Anderson

  • 11 Apr 2018

Stainless steel units from GEC Anderson feature at Monument Underground Station, comprising part of a larger upgrade program to Bank Station.

The Atkins Station Design Team invited GEC Anderson to supply and install mess room kitchen fittings, which included stainless steel worktops, cabinets and shelving for use by station staff.

CPS Rail Limited carried out the work with a strict timescale to adhere to, as well as the consideration of being compliant with the highly specific material requirements unique to the London Underground station environment.

All importantly, materials have to be totally non-combustible and not capable of producing toxic emissions. Other key considerations include longevity and appearance.

GEC Anderson have had an involvement in supplying London Underground environments for more than three decades.

This meant this particular project was no particular challenge to the specialist stainless steel supplier.

However, Managing Director Martin Tye did talk about the care and attention that needed to be given.

“With the kind of work that GEC Anderson are involved in, no two projects are ever the same. This means that we have to pay particular attention to each and every order that we receive,” he said.

“Even with a generally agreed set of design principles that may apply to a certain client, there tend to be plenty of individual details and features to consider each time,” he added.

GEC Anderson have experience in a plethora of other specialist areas, including education, health, transport, the arts, commerce, retail and residential projects.

GEC Anderson Limited has pioneered the development of stainless steel made-to-measure worktops since the company was founded in 1962.

Today the company is still the leading developer of stainless steel solutions for the public sector, commercial, industrial, institutional and domestic interiors.
