Delta delivers damp-proof expertise at London Synagogue

  • 23 May 2018

Delta Membrane Systems was recently involved in providing assistance in designing a robust waterproofing solution to a new build basement within a synagogue in North London.

The architecture of a synagogue is of great importance, with many people reporting that a synagogue’s architecture helps them to feel God’s presence.

Delta were first approached at the design stage of the project, which allowed Paul Callaghan, Delta’s Technical Consultant to attend the design team meetings, complying with BS 8102:2009.

During attendance, Paul noted that the hydrostatic head of water pressure on this area was phenomenally high and that the waterproofing design would need to reflect this.

Therefore, there would be ingress issues with the basement of attention to detail was not incorporated from the onset to the waterproofing design working closely with the Geo Technical Engineer and Structural Engineer to design the ideal, robust structure for the project.

Paul consequently suggested at the design stage, the installation of the Delta Bespoke Sump Pump range, offering extra protection to the structure from water ingress by removing large volumes of ground water in the event of an unexpected defect in the structure, foul and grey waste. The Sump Pump units were installed by the main contractor under the supervision of Delta.

By incorporating sump pumps at the design stage, it allowed the project team to work together to create and share a range of project documentation with the benefit of interconnectivity which in turn creates better project decisions during the correct stages of the project.

A Wi-Fi enabled, high-water level alarm was also advised to offer predictive data to the operation centre and a duplex control panel (the powerful Dual V6 pumps were factory set to activate at different levels. One V6 Pump being the primary and the secondary pump acting as a back-up).

Finally, an anti-lime coating/surface primer, Koster Polysil TG 500, was incorporated to reduce the risk of excess free lime leaching out of the concrete during the curing process.

Paul’s expertise have enabled the Shul and rooms within its basement to remain dry, habitable and fit for purpose.
