The roofing shingles, which have been designed as an alternative to traditional roof tiles, complimented the existing timber cladding and glass work of the building’s modern design.
They were installed alongside photovoltaic panels, solar thermal collectors and rainwater harvesting, which all helped the Centre achieve a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
The shingles have been designed with insulating properties that keep buildings warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
They are coated with natural oils that act as preservatives against decay and insect attack. This helps them to last for over 50 years.
Certigrade Western Red Cedar Shingles are inspected by third party agencies that are certified by the Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau.
Silva Timber are the only member of the Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau outside of North America.
