Providing travellers and local suppliers with a butchery and a farmshop, Gloucester Services is unlike many of Britain’s other motorway service stations.
It boasts a contemporary and unique design, with two curved walls and a green roof full of natural vegetation and planting.
Glazing Vision’s Ridgeglaze rooflight was incorporated into the service station’s design to introduce natural light into the interior space without compromising the appearance of the building.
In order to compliment the aesthetics of the contemporary building, Glazing Vision made a number of changes to its Ridgeglaze rooflight before supplying it.
The perimeter frame detail was altered to ensure that Glazing Vision’s Flushglaze section could be used.
The company also made some changes to the glass specification: the rooflight was made to comply with a class 2 rating for non-fragility, meaning that it would not break if a maintenance worker fell onto its surface.
In addition to these changes, the unit was designed with a bespoke pitch and tapered layout, allowing it to meet the site’s design requirements.
The rooflight was pitched at 3°, following the contour of the roof.
As well as complimenting the building’s exterior, the unit created a sense of light and space inside the service station.
With its slim-line framing system, it also suited the space’s modern interior.
