The facility’s flat roof was damaged by areas of standing water which had formed on the existing coverings.
With a roof-mounted air conditioning plant making the roof hard to repair, Olsworth Roofing was tasked with finding a waterproofing solution.
The Reading-based company carried out a site assessment before deciding that a full roof refurbishment was necessary to prevent any major problems from occurring.
To avoid removing the UK Border Agency’s existing roof plant, Olsworth specified 750 square metres of Sika Sarnafil single ply roofing to waterproof the building.
Before fitting Sika Sarnafil roof coverings, Olsworth bonded cut-to-falls insulation to the existing roof coverings to reduce standing water.
Sarnafil G410-15ELF roof coverings were then fitted.
The product was chosen because of its resistance to weathering. Olsworth Roofing was also attracted to the ease of installation.
In order to accommodate the increased thickness of insulation, the internal upstand kerbs were raised to surround the stone parapet around the building’s external elevations.
The stone parapet was also coated with a layer of Sarnafil G410-15EL membrane and finished with pre-fabricated Sarnametal edge trims.
Sarnafil rain water scuppers were then installed to carry rainwater through the parapets into the existing external downpipes.
This was done to remove any chance of standing water.
The building’s roof-mounted plant was reinstated on an arrangement of G445-13 protection sheets and inverted G410-15ELF sacrificial pads.
The roof mounted handrails were then reinstalled and a non-slip Sarnatred walkway was fitted to allow for future access and maintenance.
