Rooflight installation fills train station with daylight

  • 7 Apr 2015

Brett Martin’s Mardome Reflex rooflights have been used to replace Leighton Buzzard station’s old acrylic dome rooflights

Leighton Buzzard station’s original acrylic dome rooflights were beginning to falter following years of exposure to harsh weather conditions and UV rays.

Not only were the rooflights becoming unsightly, they were also unable to deliver the station’s required levels of daylighting.

Fortunately, a full refurbishment was not necessary as only the glazing element of the rooflights needed replacing.

Brett Martin’s Mardome Refurbishment Dome Rooflight was specified as a solution.

Protected from UV rays by double skin polycarbonate, the Mardome Reflex rooflights are able to withstand exposure to the sun for many years.

They can be installed on flat, low pitched or curved roof structures where the roof pitch is up to 15°.

The units are compatible for use with asphalt, metal, bituminous and green roofs as well as many of the primary flat roofing manufacturers’ systems.

After the company had surveyed the site and one of the original domes had been replaced, 130 Mardome Reflex rooflights were fitted to Leighton Buzzard station’s roof.

A team of installers worked on a mobile elevated platform to install the rooflights during engineering hours; to avoid disruption to the station’s entrance and ticket office, between 8 and 12 rooflights were fitted per night.
