The Zero Carbon Hub’s latest report, which was published in June, argues that retrofitting homes with energy efficiency measures is contributing to homes overheating.
Wetherby Building Systems has responded to the report, pointing out the misleading nature of some comments included within.
Although addressing the issue of overheating homes is important, the company stresses that insulation cannot be considered a cause.
Insulation works to keep heat out as well as in; this means that homes with external wall insulation are in a better position during hot spells.
As the heat will not be able to transfer through the walls to heat the property, the homes will stay cooler.
Wetherby believes that insulating Britain’s thermally inefficient housing stock is vital to achieving its carbon emission targets.
The company argues that the misleading report is giving the government reasons to stall in investing in a long-term strategy for improving domestic energy efficiency.
