BRE sustainability certification framework changes by the DCLG

  • 29 Nov 2013

The BRE allows businesses to achieve certification proving their ability to supply constituent materials and products that have been responsibly sourced.

Despite calls from MP’s to preserve the current process, the DCLG are currently reviewing The Code for Sustainable Homes and looking to make changes to how manufacturers attain or maintain certification.

The proposed actions have not been welcomed by industry bosses and members of the Brick Development Association and the British Ceramic Confederation.

John Sandford, Chairman of the Brick Development Association Sustainability Working Party and Wienerberger Sustainability Director, has spoken of the danger of the BES 6001 losing credibility if adjustments are made, highlighting the possibility that smaller companies will regard the process as unimportant if they no longer achieve additional points in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
