13 Ways to Enhance Your Property’s Exterior and Increase Its Value

The inside of your home is obviously important but it is the exterior that makes or breaks the deal.  It’s the first thing a house buyer sees upon looking at your property and if they don’t like what they see, they may not even bother looking inside.

So to encourage them to walk through your front door, here are 13 ways to improve the exterior of your property to increase the value of your home.

  1. Flowers smell nice and look lovely. It’s a fact. Hang some pretty baskets by the side of your door, or plant some plants down the side of the driveway.
  2. A clean driveway makes a real difference. Hire a jet wash and power wash all the block paving. Make sure you pull up any weeds.
  3. Is your car clean? A buyer will notice that you take great care to look after your vehicle and assume that you make as much effort on the inside of your home.
  4. Are the windows clean? Dirty fingerprints and muck on your windows do not make a great first impression. Make sure you clean the inside and outside to make them transparent.
  5. What kinds of windows do you have? Normal double glazing, inefficient windows or state-of-the-art Uni-Blinds (blinds inside glass)? These special windows are very striking, modern and they stay clean forever so they’re perfect for families with children.
  6. What colour is your front door? Did you know that the colour reflects your personality? People who live behind red doors are reportedly the happiest and those with a black door are the most successful in their career. Alternatively, have you considered a stained glass door?
  7. Conservatories do sell homes, so if you can extend your property living space it will add thousands of pounds onto the value of the house. Not got the space, do you have a garage? 90% of garages in the UK are not used to store a car, so instead of wasting the space, use it for an extension or a porch.
  8. Do you have off road parking? A front garden is pretty but if you are struggling for space, a concrete drive is best because it knocks your car insurance down parking your vehicle off the street.
  9. What’s the state of your roof? If there are any missing tiles or a loose gutter? Hire a local roofer to fix the repairs.
  10. What’s the colour of your house? It may have been a gorgeous white or brick red but all the rain and wind has probably discoloured it. It may be in need of a fresh lick of paint.
  11. Think about all the little accessories that will complete your house look like a brass door knob with matching letterbox and a stainless steel house number.
  12. Does your front garden have a special theme or design? Landscaping is an art but you can create a floral masterpiece with some flower beds, a vintage lamp post and a centrepiece like a water fountain.
  13. Do you have lighting outdoors? If you don’t, it will pay to install some outdoor lights by the front door. If your house is on the market at wintertime, the nights get darker sooner which means prospective buyers will be looking when it is going dark. Some lights will ensure your property stays alight.
