Fens Moss Yorkstone flag paving

Robust and visual paving solution specified for Nottingham regeneration

  • 14 Oct 2015

Brett Landscaping’s Fens Moss Yorkstone flag paving has provided Nottingham City Council with the hard landscaping solution they required to redevelop two of the city’s most significant highway facilities.

As the now-completed regeneration work was essential to keeping Nottingham’s city centre safe and functional, the Council needed a material that was designed to perform for the foreseeable future.

Brett Landscaping’s robust Fens Moss Yorkstone flag paving was eventually specified for installation on Derby Road and Heathcote Street, two centrally-located highway facilities.

Paving with aesthetic appeal

3,500 square metres of Brett’s Fens Moss Yorkstone paving was provided to replace the degenerated concrete on Derby Road.

The city’s Council wanted to implement a landscaping solution which would improve the aesthetic appeal of the area, whilst acting as a mechanism to offer priority to pedestrians and buses.

Fens Moss was chosen for its fine grain and colour palette, which predominantly consists of blue and grey with elements of buff. It was considered appropriate for installation in the heritage area, which serves Nottingham’s historic Cathedral Church of St. Barnabas.

Hard-wearing paving

At Heathcote Street, Brett supplied 1,200 square metres of the same Fens Moss Yorkstone paving to revive a carriageway, which frequently experiences heavy vehicular use and footfall.

The paving was laid in conjunction with a flush kerbing to achieve a more level and open highway system with a promise of longevity.

As it was essential to keep the overall refurbishment within financial constraints, Brett offered the Council planners a costings breakdown, making Fens Moss paving their most cost-effective option.
