Black Millwork timber windows and doors specified for award-winning mansion

  • 29 Feb 2016

A multi-million pound Georgian-style mansion in Surrey has claimed a prestigious industry award thanks to the specification of Black Millwork’s range of timber windows and doors.

Built by AH Lyons, Larksmead is an 11,400 square foot home sitting on approximately one acre of land. The mansion features six-bedrooms, eight bathrooms and five reception rooms.

The building took just over a year to complete, using a high standard of materials to achieve an EPC rating B.

“Our build ethos is to use the very best so that we can supply premium quality, desirable homes that will stand the test of time.” – Graham Lyons

AH Lyons specified 45 of Black Millwork’s Concealed Balance Urban Sliding Sash windows for the project. The windows feature an elegant and traditional style and, thanks to the addition of an upgraded Thermix spacer bar, deliver a U-value of 1.5 W/m2K.

The Sliding Sash windows were chosen to provide a striking contrast against the building’s stonework features and give the exterior “a timeless visual appeal” according to Graham Lyons, owner and director of AH Lyons.

AH Lyons also installed a number of Black Millwork’s French doors, featuring Tilt and Turn windows as sidelights and composite exterior doors. The doors were specified to flood the interior with natural light and also come with a 10-year warranty.

Graham continued: “Building a home with a comfortable and luxurious finish goes hand in hand with high levels of thermal efficiency.

“The craftsmanship of Black Millwork’s products is second to none. Black Millwork’s products offer the full package.”

Often the windows and doors can be a weakness in the building’s envelope in terms of heat loss, so it was very important that the fenestration delivers on this front as well. Every house we build is air tested and I’ve been very impressed with how well Black Millwork’s products perform.

“Part of being a successful house builder is maintaining a good reputation and this is only possible by working with suppliers you can trust. Black Millwork has always been very helpful and the result with Larksmead is yet another house we are proud of. Indeed, it was on this project that our site manager won the regional National House-building Council (NHBC) Pride In The Job Award 2015.”
