The adoption of the Government Soft Landings process and mandatory use of Building Information Modelling on all Government projects has seen 2016 become an important year for building and construction.
With this in mind, ASSA ABLOY UK has published an exclusive whitepaper dedicated to BIM.
“2016 – The door to accelerated BIM adoption?” examines whether the changes in legislation have seen the acceleration of BIM adoption, creating a pathway to “Digital Built Britain” and the promise of BIM Level 3.
The paper also explores the risk of product manufacturers and others in the supply chain becoming increasingly skeptical about the cost-benefit of investing in BIM, should the initiatives fail to gain traction.
The introduction of mandatory BIM by 2016 was planned to assist in reducing the CAPEX and OPEX costs, including the carbon burden form the construction and operation of the built environment by 33%.
With 2016 now upon us and the updated Government Construction Strategy outlining the importance of BIM, the paper addresses the critical questions:
ASSA ABLOY UK Specification began its BIM journey with the introduction of 29 BIM objects, designed to offer a complete package of both architectural ironmongery and timber doorset specifications.
The objects are tailored for the most common applications and uses within Health, Education and Commercial Office buildings.
This has since been updated with the release of 72 additional objects for performance metal doorsets.
Leading UK acoustic systems manufacturer Hush Acoustics has introduced two additional variants of its Hushlay Soundmatting product.
