The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) has launched a new guide to acoustic seals, which details the impact of Building Regulations on the specification of door assemblies and doorsets.
With Building Regulations now stipulating that doors should be acoustically rated, in addition to being smoke and fire rated, specifiers are under pressure to meet these new demands.
It is their responsibility to specify proven solutions that are able to meet and exceed the varying requirements of the Approved Documents.
With this in mind, the GAI has produced its Guide to Acoustic Seals: the document has been designed to help specifiers understand the demands of the industry’s governing legislation and standards.
The document explains how acoustic seals will be affected by Approved Document E, which places an emphasis on resistance to the passage of sound and Approved Document M, which focuses on access to and the use of buildings.
Covering a variety of topics – such as how related test reports should be interpreted and the required standard for test procedures on door acoustics – the guide has been designed to simplify the main elements that specifiers should consider in order to achieve compliance.
The document also offers advice on achieving a high acoustic rating on a standard door, putting letter plates into fire rated doors and fitting glazing panels into a door, without hindering its acoustic performance.
Sponsored by Lorient, the GAI Guide to Acoustic Seals is available to download from the member’s area of the company’s website.
Leading UK acoustic systems manufacturer Hush Acoustics has introduced two additional variants of its Hushlay Soundmatting product.
