Following a recent incident at HMP Northumberland Prison, where a guard was taken hostage and had his keys stolen, Abloy UK is promoting the need for key security via access control systems, such as CLIQ CONNECT.
Following the episode, the prison was forced to review its security systems and change its locks, at an estimated cost of over £500,000.
Prisoners were moved from their cells to ensure the replacement system could be installed; the move incurred additional expenses, taking the price of the project up to approximately £1 million.
As the case of HMP Northumberland Prison proves, losing keys can be a strain on logistics and expenses. By specifying an access control system, such as Abloy’s CLIQ CONNECT, such incidents can be prevented.
Following on from Abloy’s celebrated PROTEC2 CLIQ, CLIQ CONNECT is a next generation access control system, based on a combination of mechanical security discs and encrypted locking and identification.
Remote key management ensures a high level of security is maintained, by equipping users with the ability to remove lost or stolen keys from the system. The CLIQ CONNECT online keys make use of Bluetooth 4.0 technology, which enables users to update keys via their smartphones.
The technology also provides comprehensive audit trails on locks and padlocks, as well as non-wired products, such as cam locks.
CLIQ CONNECT keys are only valid at specific times, which reduces risk to the system. Such access control systems are recommended for installation in critical infrastructure or high security sites.
