Antimicrobial ironmongery products from Allgood’s Contego range have been fitted at the Francis Crick research facility in London in its laboratory and visitor areas.
The Francis Crick Institute is a collaboration between six founding research partners: the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, University College London, Imperial College London and King’s College London.
Designed by architects HOK with PLP Architecture and constructed by Laing O’Rourke, the biomedical research facility aims to find out how and why disease develops in order to develop new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat fatal conditions such as cancer, heart disease and stroke, as well as infection and neurodegenerative conditions.
The 170 metre long facility has been designed to the highest specifications to make sure that the most sensitive biomedical research can be undertaken throughout its one million square feet of floor space, set over 12 floors.
This included the installation of Allgood’s Contego antimicrobial copper alloy ironmongery pull handles, push plates and electromagnetic locks in high traffic areas, in addition to the specification of Contego lever handles and bathroom turns for WC doors and storage cupboards.
Aesthetically, the Contego range reflects the appearance of stainless steel, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with surrounding ironmongery items, whilst possessing the intrinsic benefits of antimicrobial copper.
Antimicrobial copper continually kills greater than 99.9% of bacteria within two hours of exposure.
In addition to supplying more than 4,500 Contego items, Allgood also provided an access control and door automation package including electronic handle sets and automatic door operators.
