Protan SE 1.2mm at Hartlebury Energy of Waste plant

Protan SE 1.2mm specified for Energy of Waste plant

An Energy of Waste (EfW) plant in Worcestershire has benefited from the installation of Protan SE 1.2mm standard overlap membrane, which has been mechanically fixed to create roof areas.

Mercia Waste Management’s new EnviRecover facility was designed by executive architects, Weedon, and engineering designers, ARUP. It is capable of generating 15.5 MW of exportable electricity from 200,000 tonnes of municipal waste.

Lakesmere was contracted to install the roofing and cladding packages on the building. The external envelope has been fitted tightly to reduce the plant’s overall footprint; stepped levels ensure that the visual mass is broken up.

Meanwhile, approximately 6,000 square metres of Protan SE 1.2mm standard overlap membrane were specified to cover the flat roof.

As an active participant in the European RoofCollect environmental organisation – which is committed to collecting and recirculating used materials – Protan shares the project’s green ethos. Produced under ISO14001 environmental management, it is A+ rated, according to the BRE Green Guide.

The membrane, which is also available in 1.6mm and 1.8mm, has been designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. It is hot-air welded at the joints and installed via mechanical fixing, which ensures that air leakage is controlled.

It has been designed to deliver, and potentially surpass, Approved Document L’s energy efficiency requirements.
