RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB insulation from ROCKWOOL has been specified for use in a Manchester-based residential development.
Developed to provide additional accommodation for Manchester’s ever-increasing population, the Cambridge Street complex consists of 282 two and three bedroom apartments. It is located on a former brownfield site in the centre of the bustling city.
Despite its desirability, the location presented a number of challenges for the construction teams working on the development. The contractor, Renaker Build, sought a compliant insulation solution, with a U-value of 0.18W/m2K, and the ability to resist external elements and adverse weather conditions. The specified system also had to demonstrate conformance with the regulation for limited combustibility, outlined in Section B4 of Approved Document B External Fire Spread.
As ROCKWOOL’s RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB has been approved by the LABC as an acceptable insulation solution for high-rise projects above 18 metres, the contractor specified 13,000 square metres of the system in 125mm.
RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB is a fibre-based product, which can be fitted into tight spaces to ensure complete protection. The system features a dual density insulation board; as the primary fleece is compressed onto the top 50mm of the insulation, the product can be used in adverse climatic conditions.
Requiring fewer fittings than other stone wool slabs on the market, RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB can be applied quickly, without disruption. To support the installation, designated ROCKWOOL technicians were on site throughout the planning stages and applications phases.
The insulation was rendered to meet the project’s specific requirements, ensuring the architect’s vision for the Cambridge Street development could be achieved.
