IKO PLC marked the start of construction of its 470,000ft2 PIR insulation factory with a ‘Spade in the Ground’ event on Friday 10th March.
The global leader in roofing, waterproofing and insulation products’ new factory, at the Alconbury Weald development in Cambridgeshire, is a ‘good news’ story for the UK’s energy savings, business and manufacturing.
The event was attended by the MP for Huntingdon, Jonathan Djanogly, and councillors and media representatives.
The factory represents IKO PLC’s £30 million investment and will significantly contribute to the construction industry and the local community by creating up to 160 jobs in the area.
Urban&Civic commercial developer, Tim Leathes, said the company will continue to work with the UKO team to support their commitment to bringing low cargo construction materials into the UK market.
The Alconbury plant will produce insulation for around 40,000 homes a year, when fully operational. The plant all help the Government achieve the Climate Change Act’s current target to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
The factory will also help to reduce the environmental impact and cost of importing materials from abroad, by manufacturing the insulation boards in the UK.
IKO has achieved the highest standards for environmental management according to Andy. He states that it achieved ISO 14001 and BES 6001 for responsible sourcing of construction products on three of our existing UK factories. The new factory will operate to these standards too.
March 2018 is the official opening of the factory, but construction of the factory is due to be completes in September 2017.
