New stone render offers flexibility for building developers

  • 4 May 2017

Wetherby Building Systems has added a new stone render finish to its external wall insulation (EWI) portfolio.

Stone façades are a popular choice of finish for new build and refurbishment developments across the UK. However, it is often difficult for building specifiers and contractors to source genuine stone on tight project budgets; installing it can also be time prohibitive.

As these façades tend to be typical for housing estates, new building developments are often tasked with finding a similar finish to complement their neighbouring properties.

Wetherby has developed its EspiCoat Stone Render to provide an alternative to costly stone façades. Available in seven different shades, which have been chosen to reflect the British housing market’s most popular stones, the finish has been designed for application to the company’s white EPS or graphite-enhanced EpsiTherm insultation.

The cost-effective finish, which offers reduced labour times whilst benefiting from the appearance of natural stone, offers flexibility to architects and specifiers when designing domestic new build or refurbishment developments.

The render is weather-resistant, making it suitable for use in building projects across the UK. It can be applied with a trowel for a smoother, marble-like finish, or by spray for a textured finish reminiscent of natural granite.

Contractors can replicate the look of a stone block façade by scoring a pattern into the basecoat before spraying the render over the recessed joints.
