W30 steel windows offer increased thermal efficiency

  • 16 Jun 2017

The Steel Window Association is promoting W30 steel windows, which are offered by its members.

Designed for enhanced energy efficiency, W30 windows are the slimmest steel frames to boast full compliance with the latest Part L Building Regulations.

B-rated by the BFRC, each window incorporates a double glazed unit of 18mm. The double glazing comprises a 4mm soft coat low e glass and 4mm clear low iron glass, which sandwiches a 10mm krypton gas-filled cavity with a warm edge spacer bar.

The W30 is double weather-stripped to enhance thermal efficiency further. The double glazed units are secured with a chamfered aluminium beading system.

Considering the W30’s lifecycle, all steel elements are completely recyclable. The credentials of steel windows are recognised by the Building Research Establishment’s ‘Green Guide’, which gives them an above average B rating.

An array of glazing decoration choices are available: for example, applied leading can replicate traditional diamond or rectangular leaded lights in a double glazed window, when a range of lead thicknesses are used.

To prevent rusting, the steel elements of the windows are galvanised, while the glass is powder coated to prevent the need for any further decoration.
