MCRMA offers guidance on facade systems testing

  • 31 Jul 2017

The Metal Cladding & Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA) has published a Facade Systems Testing Advice Note.

The Advice Notice has been produced following DCLG’s publication of the first of its six Aluminium Composite Material cladding BS 8414 Part 1 fire tests.

The test conducted at the BRE, comprising polyisocyanurate insulation with polyethylene core ACM, failed a BR 135 assessment. Therefore, this combination of materials is deemed non-compliant with Building Regulations.

The Advice Note sets out guidance for those who are responsible for the safety of buildings with this type of facade system on the removal of the cladding and/or insulation and identifying a solution for the replacement of the facade.

The guidance should be considered in conjunction with information issued by the Government via the DCLG, with regard to the overall safety of the building’s occupants.

The MCRMA website contains the details of members who can assist in the rectification of a building, including consultants, professional advisors and manufacturers.

Any MCRMA member will be pleased to recommend a reliable installer to help remove and replace an affected facade. All members comply with the MCRMA charter and code of conduct, and all manufacturer members possess ISO 9001 quality accreditation.
