REHAU has developed a new brochure to showcase its innovative Thermally Activated Building Structures (TABS) technology to architects and specifiers seeking an environmentally-sound heating and cooling system solution.
TABS is a unique innovation which uses the large thermal mass of concrete in a building’s structure to adjust the environment inside the building over the course of the day.
It does this by running heated or chilled water through a network of PE-Xa pipes embedded in the concrete slabs. This ground-breaking system has featurred extensively in Europe and South Africa, but is not yet common in the UK.
Given many of the industry professionals looking at TABS will not be familiar with the technology, REHAU has redesigned its brochure to give a simpler, concise overview of the system and its benefits.
The brochure contains an introduction to TABS, an explanation of how the radiant heating and cooling works and suggested applications and a breakdown of the key benefits of TABS, such as its low operating costs, speedy and easy installation and reduced maintenance requirements.
In addition, case studies from all over the UK, where TABS has been successfully used, feature, along with advice on the different types of installation possible; in-site concrete slabs, precast concrete planks and pre-fabricated mesh.
The brochure also outlines REHAU’s compression joint system, which is used to join the lengths of PE-Xa pipework together before it is encased in concrete. To date, 750 million joints have been manufactured.
Drew Clough, Product Manager, Building Solutions at REHAU said TABS is a great solution as it is sustainable and creates a healthier, more comfortable environment for the end user.
“To ensure we get that message across to prospective customers, we have revised our literature for TABS to make it easy to digest so people can see right away if its right for them,” he said.
