PODCAST: Bona use BNE to promote expertise on floor finishing

  • 30 Apr 2019

Wood floor finishes experts, Bona Limited, have used Buildingtalk media partner BusinessNet Explorer’s BNE Product News platform as a way of communicating their expertise on floor finishing through a podcast interview with Bona Technical Manager, Alec Stacey.

Alec was interviewed by BNE’s Mick de Leiburne, for their Project Viewpoint interview series, about the current trends towards the specification of oil finishes; the most common reasons for resisting the specification of wood floors in buildings; maintenance issues and the latest design trends for domestic and commercial wood flooring.

The podcast makes useful listening for anyone involved in the specification of wood floors in all types of buildings. Alec explains the difference between oil and lacquer finishes and where each works best in terms of aesthetics, performance and opportunities for maintenance.

He explains how concern over maintenance is often the reason for non-specification of wood flooring because many people are unaware of the correct treatments to use.

There are also concerns over the impact of incorrect maintenance such as poor appearance and the downtime incurred when lack of maintenance leads to having to sand back to bare wood.

Alec suggests practical and cost effective ways of maintaining surfaces which avoid having to do this and which will also keep the surface looking good.

He also references the trend to ‘renovate not replace’ using techniques such as ‘brushing’ and the application of combinations of pigmented finishes to create totally new looks.
