Countryside and L&Q’s Acton Gardens Regeneration project – which features energy efficient timber windows from NorDan – has achieved two Housing Design Awards
The £600m revitalisation project has seen the redevelopment of West London’s South Acton neighbourhood. 1,800 properties on the South Acton Estate have been replaced and a new urban village, comprising around 2,500 homes and numerous social and community facilities, has been built.
The development has been praised for its focus on optimising free flowing living space. NorDan glazing was specified to maximise the natural light in the first houses on the new estate, which were designed by architect Maccreanor Lavington
NorDan’s Top swing NTech 0.9 triple glazed alu clad timber windows enabled the developers to achieve an average of 0.8 w/m2k U-values across the project. Manufactured with composite aluminium timber, the windows also offer high acoustic values.
As a whole, the Acton Gardens Regeneration development obtained Code Levels 3 and 4 in the Code for Sustainable Homes. It achieved a regeneration award and a project award at the 2016 Housing Design Awards; three other phases were also shortlisted.
Supported by a wealth of industry bodies, the Housing Design Awards are highly regarded in the property sector. This year, the judges experienced a record entry level of more than 200 schemes – only 15 of the 95 projects shortlisted won an award, demonstrating the quality of the competition.
