Facade insulation for the new Waters Corporation mass spectrometry headquarters in Wilmslow includes 20,000 m2 of Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board
Waters Corporation consolidated 4 existing sites in the local area to create the new 19,753 m2 facility
Vinci oversaw construction at the facility which includes an assembly plant, R&D labs, an office and sales and marketing facilities.
Mott MacDonald designed the facility to achieve BREEAM Very Good rating, and ensuring a high level of fabric performance was central to this.
120 mm Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board was specified to insulate the building’s modern facade.
Kooltherm was the first insulation board for use in rainscreen cladding applications to achieve LABC System Approval.
Installed a combination of Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 LPC/FM and Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM.
By combining a tapered fall and insulation in a single product, Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM helped to speed up the installation process whilst preventing the potential issue of water ponding, which can reduce the lifespan of a roof.
Peter Austin, Lead Architect at Mott MacDonald: ñWe were extremely proud to work on this highly prestigious project. The Kingspan products not only met the key thermal performance requirements but also offered A and A+ BRE Green Guide ratings which were important for the BREEAM assessment.î
All three Kingspan products are certified ‘Very Good’ under the demanding BES 6001: Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products standard, allowing them to contribute towards the BREEAM Responsible Sourcing credit.
They are also manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero ODP and low GWP and offer outstanding fire performance with Class O rated cores as defined by the Building Regulations.
