Senior Architectural Systems supplies the full aluminium fenestration package for a new retirement village in the West Midlands, which comprises 261 one- and two-bedroom apartments for the over 55s.
Designed by architects Nicol Thomas, the new complex has been created following the redevelopment of a former office block in Shirley, Solihull.
The scheme features Senior’s SPW600 aluminium windows, SPW501 doors and thermally enhanced SF52 curtain walling; all fabricated and installed by supply chain partner Acorn Architectural Aluminium for main contractor Vistry.
Developed by the ExtraCare Charitable Trust in partnership with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, the new retirement community covers a 4-acre site and features several multi-level residential blocks, the highest being 12 storeys.
Each of the individual apartments have been designed to maximise the use of daylighting and offer residents far-reaching views and access to the communal gardens.
It was also vital that as well as providing an energy-efficient solution that would meet the required U-value targets set out by Part L of the Building Regulations, the chosen fenestration package would also provide peace of mind in terms of security and safety.
Senior’s SPW600 aluminium windows fit the brief perfectly by offering attractive slim sightlines, high thermal performance and meeting the requirements of Secured By Design.
Senior’s robust SPW501 aluminium doors, which are also PAS24 certified, have been used throughout, with the versatile SF52 aluminium curtain wall system also specified to help maximise the sense of light and space in the communal areas of the complex.
The Solihull Retirement Village is the latest contract to be completed by Senior in the care residential sector, with the manufacturer previously supplying aluminium fenestration solutions to other large-scale developments such as the Harrison Extra Care Home scheme in Hull and Fern House in Bingley, West Yorkshire.
