Interserve has been working on a £7.5m project to convert the McMillan Building into the Dixons McMillan Academy for the Dixons Academy chain.
The existing building has been partially demolished, an extension converted and a new build sports hall constructed around a central, multi-use space.
FCB Roofing, on behalf of Interserve, stripped the existing roof and upgraded it, and built up the new roofs using 2000m2 of mechanically-fixed standard overlap Protan SE1.2mm single ply membrane.
“Protan was specified as the preferred roofing membrane. We have a proven track record using Protan products, so were happy to adhere to the specification,” explained FCB’s Alan Horton. “We were confident that Protan’s membrane would enable us to fulfil our part of the project efficiently, and that the membrane will deliver excellence in roofing.”
Protan SE, available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm, is developed to cope with extreme weather conditions and is certified to 30°C.
The membrane is hot-air welded at the joints and mechanically fixed to the roof. This enables it to achieve a durability in excess of 30 years, with air leakage controlled/minimised in line with latest Building Regulations.
Protan SE membrane is certified to deliver, and potentially surpass, the energy efficiency requirements in Approved Document L.
