  • 13 Jun 2016

Howard Chapman, Buildingtalk editor, on the latest ONS (Office for National Statistics) construction output figures for Apr 2016.

Best month for builders for two years

  • output in the construction industry grew by 2.5% compared with March 2016.
  • all new work increased by 2.9%
  • all repair and maintenance increased by 1.9%
  • strong industrial production data overall means economy performing better than expected

However, business surveys still show a vote leave in the EU Referendum would hit the construction industry hard, not least because it relies heavily on migrant labour.
